reiko and i are both renters of small apartments so every piece we put in should be multifunctional, but of course, style is important too. we want to try and create a stylish looking dining table that has the durability of a kitchen island prep station. our inspiration for this transformation is this great photo that we found on pinterest. we love the combination of the green cabinetry with the black granite countertops so that's what we're going to apply to this table. we've used beauti-tone "highland" colour to paint out the legs. for the top of the table, we'll be using this great beauti-tone countertop refinishing kit. it uses real stones so it will be really durable and it'll look really great. before you begin using the kit, make sure you sand your surface to remove any pre-existing coating that might be on the table.

we're going to use 150 grits and rough it up. when the sanding is complete, it's time to start with step 1 from the kit, the base coat. i'm just going to apply a really thin but even coat. this base coat is actually really thick so make sure you really coach your roller and just spread it evenly. so this first layer actually needs 2 coats so you're just going to apply the first coat, let it dry 30 mins, and apply a second one. so our 2 layers of base coat are dry and it's time for step 2 which is the stone coat. this is where the biggest transformation is going to happen because when it's finished, it's going to have the stone like appearance. we're applying the stone coat in a nice "x" pattern to give it an even finish.

we're going to let this dry for about an hour and then apply a second coat of the stone finish. we've let the stone coating dry overnight so we're going to give it a sand with this 120 grit sandpaper that comes in the kit. and this is the exciting part because this is where the sanding will reveal all the flecks of rock that are actually embedded in the stone coat. so let's go for it. make sure when you're standing to stand in a circular motion so you're not scraping away at the table. so we're ready for our final coat, which is the clear coat, and we're just going to apply this really evenly and it'll add a lot of shine and seal the surface. so we're just going to wait 4 hrs for this coat to dry, apply a second coat and wait 24 hrs, and it'll be ready to use. i think it looks great already.

it does. i think we did a great job of transforming this table into a stylish and really durable piece for the home. i love that the surface is multifunctional. we can use it for dining, for food prep, and even arts and crafts.
